Taming Macho Ways

SUMMARY
In the article “Taming Macho Ways,” by Elvia Alvarado, describes the big machismo in the country different that in the city and how it can be tame. In the country, the campesinas make the housework during all day until their husbands get home at night to have dinner and go to sleep since their work had been done. Nevertheless, for the campesinas the work is continuous and they never take a rest. However, the women do most of the work there are kind of hard physical jobs that need being made by the men. On the other hand, in the city the men help out the women with the housework when they are doing something else.
The “machismo” is a big historical problem that makes the campesinos to do not support their families and start beating their wives since the campesinos are drank.
When the campesinos organized most of them drink less, usually stop beating their wives, and they are very dedicated to their work and their families. The same when the campesinas organized they purpose to change.
Elvia Alvarado says “The people can change the bad habits of the past when they want a new society.”

critical questions:
1. is it ok if the men beat their wives? why or why not?
2. do you think the people had changed their point of view about the machista with the pass of the  time?

Having the worst date in my life

A day I was working like every day when Paul came to me, "Hello woman, how are you today," he said. Smiling I said "I am fine." For a few seconds we did not know what to say. Will you go to a restaurant with me? He asked me, I felt very happy that I said, “I love it."
At 8:00 PM, he picked me up in his beautiful BMW to go to the restaurant. As soon as we walked in the restaurant a very friendly waiter came to our table and he asked us, "What would you like to eat or drink?" Paul said, "I will have a bear," the waiter looked at me and asked "what about you Madame?" "Could you please bring me a glass of wine?" I said. Meanwhile, the waiter got our drinks he asked us "are you ready to order your meal." Paul said "we want two soups and the main course we would like to have steak, some rice and avocado salad, thank you."
The waiter came back with the soups "enjoy your meal," he said.
Paul and I were eating our soups and having fun. Suddenly, he saw a bug in his soup. He started screaming, "Look! Look! There is a bug in the soup, where is the waiter or the manager? I want to see him now".
I told Paul, "Please, stop screaming. You are embarrassing me." However, he continued yelling and all the customers in the restaurant were looking at us. “If you do not stop screaming I am going to leave," I said.
The waiter trying to calm Paul down said, "I am apologizing for the incident. I will speak to the manager and we will give you your money back." Nevertheless Paul was still upset and he continued yelling. "You ruined my date. I don't need your money,” Paul said. Then, the waiter could not handout the situation and get mad at Paul, “I cannot let you treat me in that manner if you are angry for something talk to someone else because I quite right now the waiter said living the restaurant.
I watched everything that happened until the end and I could not stay for more time so I left from the restaurant behind the waiter since I was so embarrassed.
It was the worst date in my life, I do not want to have a date with a wealthy people anymore.
